Thomas More's Education and Career

Thomas More was born into a distinguished legal family in 1477, the oldest son of lawyer John More. He attended St. Anthony's school in London and then served in Archbishop Morton's household. In 1492 he attended Canterbury College in Oxford and subsequently went to study law at Lincoln's Inn in 1493.

Since the end of the Civil war, blacks represented both the Congress and House of Representatives as Republicans, beginning with Congressman Hiram Rhodes Revels of Mississippi and House of Representative Joseph Rainey of South Carolina in 1870.
